Sheriff Randy Courson reports that on August 21st, 2022, at approximately 8:20pm, a concerned citizen called 911 to report two suspicious people in the middle of Highway 94 in the area of Will Rewis Road. The caller stated the people had the road blocked and began hitting their vehicle to get them to stop. The driver kept driving and reported them to 911. A deputy responded to the area and made contact with a male and female who stated they had been carjacked at gun point. The two victims who worked for Uber, were giving the offender, later identified as Camille Williams, a ride from Jacksonville to an address on E Magnolia Street in Valdosta when Williams pulled out a handgun, pointed at the victim’s head and told them to pull over, leave the keys and their phones on the dashboard and exit the vehicle or she would kill them. At this point, Williams took the vehicle and continued east bound on Highway 94. A Be On The Lookout (BOLO) was issued for Lowndes County and Valdosta and deputies and officers made contact with the vehicle at the same address the victims stated they were driving Williams to. Williams, 24 of Jacksonville, Florida was arrested after being identified by the victims and was transported to Lowndes County Jail and charged with two counts of Felony Aggravated Assault, Felony Hijacking a Motor Vehicle, Felony Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime, Felony Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Misdemeanor Theft by Taking. Sheriff Courson states this is a great example of how agencies work together to get these criminals off the streets. Sheriff Courson thanks Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office and the Valdosta Police Department for their assistance in the apprehension of this dangerous felon.
