Drug Bust

Sheriff Courson states that on October 23rd, 2021 at approximately 11pm, Echols County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia State Patrol conducted a road block at the intersection of Bethel Church Road and J Frank Culpepper Road. As a gray Hyundai Elantra came through the checkpoint a Trooper detected the odor of Marijuana coming from the vehicle. Also in plain view was a small baggie of Marijuana in the center console. The Trooper instructed the driver to pull to the shoulder where a more thorough search could be conducted. The driver, Cessor Mario Houston and the passenger, Lacey Nichole Gaines were both removed from the vehicle and detained during the search. A further search of the vehicle done by Troopers revealed a small quantity of Marijuana and a black backpack. The black backpack contained numerous quantities of illegal narcotics, baggies and scales which are indicative of selling narcotics. Both Gaines and Houston denied any knowledge of the illegal narcotics. Gaines and Houston were taken into custody and charged with Felony Trafficking in Fentanyl, Felony Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute, Felony Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, Felony Possession of Morphine with Intent to Distribute, and Felony Possession of Alpha PVP (Flakka) with Intent to Distribute.
